The Legacy

Synopsis

The Legacy is based in a country manor in Denmark owned by acclaimed and infamous artist Veronika Grønnegaard. After her sudden death, Veronika’s four adult children come together to claim their mother’s will and wealthy estate.

Season One

This ten-part series follows the lives of Veronika’s estranged children and heirs: Gro (Trine Dyrholm) and her half-brothers Frederik (Carsten Bjørnlund) and Emil (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard). Signe (Marie Bach Hansen) discovers she has been adopted and her memories of growing up under the name “Sunshine” with her biological family. When Signe is bequeathed the Grønnegaard estate, the siblings each examine their upbringing after being raised in an unconventional and privileged household. Forgotten secrets emerge and their sanity slowly begins to unravel to seek their inheritance.

Season Two

Grønnegaard now embodies the spirit of the family feud that has caused the four siblings so much sadness and anger. Signe, struggling to get her hemp farm up and running, wants to turn Grønnegaard back into a happy gathering place for her siblings. But it’s tough, because they all have completely different ideas about their extended family and it’s especially hard for Frederik to let bygones be bygones. In Thailand, Emil’s predicament becomes harder and his lawyers demand more money to secure his release. In order to raise the necessary funds, Gro continues to make and sell dubious works of art, but it’s a strategy that puts Gro and Robert’s mutual trust to the test, and at the same time threatens the four heirs’ future. And in the midst of all the chaos, who can take responsibility for a new-born child?
