Braquo

Synopsis

A dark realistic cop series from world-famous filmmaker and former police office Olivier Marchal. Braquo (slang for Heist) follows a squad of Paris cops who exist in the blurred boundaries at the very edge of the law, often using violence and intimidation to get the job done. The lives of these officers change radically when their squad leader, falsely accused of corruption, commits suicide. Determined to clear his name they start an investigation of their own, only to find that the police department itself stands in their way.

Driven by adrenaline and a thirst for justice, they must turn their backs on the laws they’re sworn to enforce if they are to uncover the truth. Facing constant danger from all sides – and with the two most likely outcomes being imprisonment or death – the stakes couldn’t be higher, but that merely serves to crank up the tension in this acclaimed series.

As for the characters, the group is led by Eddy Caplan (Anglade), the typical flawed hero who was Max’s best friend and is determined to exonerate him of all charges. His character is honest and kind-hearted but will go to great lengths to achieve his goal. He has a penchant for siding with the “dirty cops” who, like him, will do pretty much anything, even if it means stepping outside of the law.

Eddy Caplan is played by Jean-Hugues Anglade, a French actor, director and screenwriter. Aside from Braquo, Anglade is also known for his role in Killing Zoey (1994), Betty Blue (1986) and Nikita (1990).

Theo is the only son of a prominent and wealthy family in Nice and is somewhat of a handsome playboy. He frequents places which the drug dealers and thugs also visit. His methods for fighting crime seem a little unconventional and over the series we watch as he gets caught up in the dark under world of Paris.

Nicolas Duvauchelle is an actor who has starred in many French productions, including Lightweight (2004), A tout de suite (2004) and Le Grand Meaulnes (2006).

As an ex-military man and a weapons and explosives specialist, Morlighem could be considered a super-cop. He has known Caplan since his first assignment. Walter’s main focus is to be a worthy father and a loyal cop, following the rules of the law.

Walter Morlighem is played by French actor Joseph Malerba. He is most known for his roles in Leon: The Professional (1994) and Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008).

Roxane always wanted to be a cop, perhaps because she grew up watching her father doing the same job, and he was exceptionally good at it. Since the death of her father, she feels an exceptional bond to the group as they are the only family she has left. However, her pure and kind nature somewhat changes when Theo’s body is discovered.

Karole Rocher plays Roxane, her other roles include Polisse (2011), Stella (2008) and Princesses (2000).
