Get acquainted with the new Nordic Noir & Beyond-border control

We fondly know Lars Mikkelsen as mayoral candidate Troels Hartmann in the award-winning and original Scandi crime series, The Killing. He has recently been astounding viewers internationally with the new Danish drama The Day Will Come opposite Sofie Gråbøl, which has been screening this week at the BFI London Film Festival. Prepare to see even more of the versatile actor as he takes the lead in the new Euro Noir series The Team, out to buy on DVD Monday 31st October through our Nordic Noir & Beyond label!

The Team revolves around a European Union of investigators, if you will, combining the crime-fighting acumen from Denmark, Germany, and Belgium. When three women are discovered murdered in each of the capital cities – Copenhagen, Berlin, and Antwerp – the crimes suggest there is a larger motive to unearth. Led by Chief Superintendent Harald Bjørn of the Copenhagen Homicide Department (Lars Mikkelsen), the European Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is called into action to investigate. Bjørn is joined by Jackie (Jasmin Gerat) from Berlin and Alicia (Veerle Baetens), based in Antwerp.

Following in the critically acclaimed shadow of Nordic Noir, there has been a clear rise in Euro Noir television series that have travelled internationally. These include crime shows like Gomorrah from Italy, the mystery dramas from France with Witnesses and The Disappearance, as well as the dark comedy The Out-Laws from Belgium, and the socially relevant cross-cultural thriller The Border from Poland. The Team blends the different EU cultures into one harmonious programme which can be interpreted as a progressive comment on the state of the European Union today. Notably, The Team is part-funded by the EU’s Creative Europe Media initiative.

At Berlinale 2015, Mikkelsen praised the potential of the show with the German broadcaster ZDF: “I have read the books and had no doubt that the series would be good. It was particularly exciting for me to shoot in several countries and languages.”

The Team is released Monday 31st October on DVD through Nordic Noir & Beyond
