Arrow Films announce the Norwegian ‘Heavy Water War’ series available to own this Summer
The latest depiction of Nordic war epics sweeping across our screens in 2015 has been riveting audiences who are still tuning in to watch the six-part series The Saboteurs as it currently airs on More4.
Anna Friel stars alongside Espen Klouman Høiner, Christoph Bach, Frank Kjosås, Søren Pilmark, Dennis Storhøi and Pip Torrens in the international period action drama which, along with the recent Danish mini-series 1864, highlights an important part of Scandinavian history often forgotten.
The plan to thwart Hitler’s attempts at creating an atomic bomb during the Second World War is the driving force behind The Saboteurs. When Nazi Germany target the ‘heavy water’ factory in the Norwegian mountains a British-Norwegian alliance is born to stop the impending nuclear attack.
Along with the record breaking amount of viewers who watched in native Norway when The Saboteurs originally broadcast, the reception from British audiences is mimicked by critical reviews. The Guardian praises the show as “Intriguing, exciting and involving”, as well as the Radio Times exemplifying how the drama is “Tense… Gripping…” The Arts Desk also comments on the programme’s quality: “The Saboteurs offers a convincing sense of foreboding peril with attractive complexity.”
