It’s been announced that the latest Danish television drama, The Legacy, will receive its exclusive UK television premiere on Sky Arts on 26th November 2014.
Produced by leading European production house DR Fiktion, the BAFTA and International Emmy Award-winning production unit behind such acclaimed drama series as The Killing and Borgen, The Legacy is a ten-part series directed by the internationally celebrated actor-turned-director Pernilla August and created by author Maya Ilsøe.
Set in and around the country mansion of internationally-renowned artist Veronika Grønnegaard after her cancer-related death, the series traces her four adult children and the way their distinctively eccentric and counter-cultural upbringing has had a different effect on each of their lives. As their mother’s estate is divided up, secrets and lies begin to emerge, forcing them all to comprehend what it means to be a family in a time where traditional values continue to undergo great change.
Following a similar narrative structure to celebrated Danish film Festen (1998), which saw a family slowly unraveling when previously hidden truths emerge, The Legacy stars notable Danish actors Trine Dyrholm, who also starred in Festen and more recently Love Is All You Need (2012) and Carsten Bjørnlund (best known for his portrayal of Major Christian Søgaard in The Killing) and Kirsten Olesen as the late Veronika Grønnegaard.
