Although she is a shining light in many of our hearts, Sidse Babett Knudsen can now officially call herself a knight of the French art guild ‘Arts et Lettres’. The Danish actress has been awarded the prestigious title for her role as Denmark’s Prime Minister, Birgitte Nyborg, in the award winning series Borgen.
The actress has close ties with France, having studied in Paris for five years as an acting student. With Borgen being as popular in France as it is in the UK, the French Ministry of Culture have chosen to knight Sidse for her outstanding representation of French art and culture in Denmark and being an constant pioneer for equality.
Upon receiving the title, Sidse graciously stated “It is a great pleasure and honour to receive the prestigious French award. Since my student days in France, I have had a special relationship with the country and therefore it has also been a particular pleasure that Borgen has been so well received by the French.”
Sidse will officially be made a knight at the French embassy in Copenhagen on October 7.
