Prepare for a new Euro Noir comedy series to arrive from Belgium…

Don’t get left behind with The Out-Laws. Having recently aired on UK screens, the Belgian series has since been compared to the likes of Desperate Housewives, laden with the dark and twisted humour we have come to love from Euro and Nordic Noir. The Out-Laws is available to own on Nordic Noir & Beyond DVD from Monday 12th September.

The Out-Laws begins with the funeral of Jean-Claude. However, the Goethals sisters do not seem to be upset by his death. During the eight-episode season, we are taken through a series of flashbacks to find out how it all started. The insidious spark ignited in the wake of their parents’ death. Here, the Goethals discover that their close-knit sisterhood has unravelled. The reason they have moved apart is due to Goedele’s marriage to their brother-in-law, Jean-Claude, whom they despise. Driven by a dark and sadistic desire to kill Jean-Claude, the series follows the dastardly plot hatched between the siblings and how they attempt to get away with murder – multiple times.

In an interview with The Guardian, the series writer and creator Malin-Sarah Gozin shares how she came up with the inventive ways for the sisters to kill off the villain Jean-Claude: “I had to come up with nine different murder attempts. I saw a lot of doctors and forensic experts, because it was essential that each attempt really could happen. Eventually, I found out the perfect murder doesn’t exist. Maybe I should write a ‘How Not To …’ book.”

Named as part of the BBC’s top ten television shows not to be missed in July, The Out-Laws (also known as The Clan) has made an impact with English-language fans and is also being remade in the US. The Out-Laws stars Barbara Sarafian, Kristine Van Pellicom, Ruth Becquart, Maaike Neuville as the Goethals sisters, with Inge Paulussen, Dirk Roofthooft and Geert Van Rampelberg (The Treatment).
