The Danish star swaps the battlefield for the Troxy theatre on Saturday 6th June at Nordicana
Søren Malling is the newest addition to the forthcoming festival that brings together the best of Nordic talent in drama and fiction.
Malling rose to fame following his portrayal of belligerent detective Jan Meyer in the first season of The Killing (2007-2012) with Sofie Gråbøl.Since then he has also graced our screens in the politically-charged Borgen (2010-2013); another popular DR series welcomed by international audiences. No stranger to the big screen, Malling’s film outings include the lavish costume drama A Royal Affair (2012), opposite Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander, as well as the taut thriller A Hijacking (2012), alongside Borgen co-star Pilou Asbæk. Malling’s performance as hostage negotiator Peter C. Ludvigsen in A Hijacking earned him a Bodil Award nomination and a Best Actor win from the prestigious Robert Awards in 2013.
DR’s latest historical saga 1864 sees Malling in a role he best describes to BT (Berlingske Media) as: “Johan is a seasoned veteran who has tried to be at war, and [series director] Ole Bornedal has made him the series’ guardian angel.”
Søren Malling will be appearing on stage on Saturday 6th of June. The event will see him reunited with actress Sofie Gråbøl; the pair having played partners in crime in The Killing, as well as 1864 co-stars Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Jakob Oftebro, Marie Tourell Søderberg and Jens Sætter-Lassen.
1864 continues on BBC Four on Saturday at 9pm
