A new Swedish crime saga. A new M.O. to discover…
Based on Anne Holt’s best-selling “Vik/Stubø” series of novels, Modus is an adaptation of the fourth book – Fear Not (‘Pengemannen’) – written in 2009. The first episode of Modus generated critical acclaim when the series aired on Sweden’s TV4 in September 2015. The show kept Swedish viewers hooked throughout the first season run. FremantleMedia International confirmed that the Swedish premiere of Modus “reached over 1.2 million viewers, taking a share of 37.2%. The incredible launch makes Modus TV4’s biggest drama launch in over 2 years and Sweden’s number 1 drama launch of 2015 to date.” The TV4 Drama Director Josefine Tengblad amplified the success of Modus: “This is the best thing that could happen… It sets the bar for how the series will continue its international travels.” Since then, a second season has been commissioned by TV4.
Now, the new eight-part Nordic Nordic Noir series is something to look forward to on BBCFour. The BBC Head of Programme Acquisitions Sue Deeks shared her excitement: “Modus is an exciting atmospheric thriller with an icy core. It is perfect for Saturday nights on BBCFour.”
Melinda Kinnaman, sister of The Killing (US) (2011-2014) and the Easy Money trilogy (2010-2013) actor Joel Kinnaman, stars as our new heroine Inger Johanne Vik. Previously seen in The Bridge III (2015) and The Eagle (2004-2006), Melinda is joined by distinguished actor Krister Henriksson of Henning Mankell’s Wallander series (2005-2013). Modus co-stars Henrik Norlén (Thicker than Water, 2014- ) and Alexandra Rapaport (The Hunt, 2012 and The Sandhamn Murders, 2010-2015).
The investigation begins with a heinous killing spree over the course of Christmastime. Inger Johanne Vik (Kinnaman) is a criminal psychologist and profiler who must balance her personal life by taking care of her autistic daughter Stina (Esmeralda Struwe). However, when Stina witnesses one of the slayings, Vik is drawn even deeper into the chilling case as she uncovers an insidious connection to a fundamentalist European network of villains.
Modus unites Norwegian author Holt with International Emmy Award-winning writers Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe, who have penned successful Nordic crime shows Unit One (2001-2004), The Eagle (2004-2006), The Protectors (2009-2010) and The Team (2015- ). Modus also features directors from hit Scandinavian crimes shows, including Lisa Siwe (The Bridge, 2011) and Mani Maserrat Agah (Arne Dahl: Bad Blood, 2012).
Modus comes to BBCFour soon. The UK air date is still to be announced. Check back here for further updates.
