Lilyhammer and Gomorrah were among the winners of this year’s Monte Carlo television awards.
Steven Van Zandt picked up the award for Outstanding Actor for Best European Comedy Series. The US-born actor won the prestigious gong for the second year running which also saw the show win for Best European Comedy Series. Van Zandt dedicated his award to his Sopranos co-star, the late James Gandolfini, stating: “every scene with him was like a year’s worth of acting classes.” The acclaimed series is now in its third season, which sees The Sopranos actor play a New York mobster who relocates to Lillehammer, Norway under the witness protection program.
Another big winner of the evening went to Gomorrah, which won Best International Drama Series. Lead actor Marco D’Amore also scooped up the gong for Outstanding Actor in a European Drama Series. The Italian crime series, based on the bestselling novel by Roberto Saviano, follows a circle of organised crime and the trials and tribulations that come their way.
Other winners of the 2015 Monte Carlo Television Awards include the BBC series The Missing and Happy Valley as well as the Polish documentary The Ghost People and South Korean environmental documentary Island in the East Sea.
