One of these multiple, yet intrinsic strands of the new mystery in the latest third season of The Bridge stars Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Jeanette.

We are introduced to Boussnina’s character through her relationship with her incessant gambling boyfriend Marc (Michael Slebsager). His love for Jeanette is strong and true, yet his addiction to staking all of their money against the odds and yielding to the temptation of winning is equally as powerful; creating tension between the young lovers. Jeanette is also heavily pregnant, which we discover is a link to a new and suspicious character in episode six – businessman and art dealer Freddie Holst (Nicolas Bro – The Killing II, 2009 and 1864, 2014).

Sarah-Sofie Boussnina has appeared in leading roles in television series including Park Road (2009-2010) and Tvillingerne & Julemanden (2013- ), as well as films such as Bora Bora (2011) and the second adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Department Q novels: The Absent One (2014). However, the grand mini-series production of a contentious period in Danish history – the humiliating defeat during the Second Schleswig War – provided the actress with a break-out performance as Claudia in 1864.

Claudia – a disillusioned teenager living in the mournful shadow of her brother killed in Iraq – fronts the modern parallel storyline of 1864. Here, she meets the elderly Baron Severin (Bent Mejding) who enlightens her with the bittersweet love of Inge (Marie Tourell Søderberg), Peter (Jens Sætter-Lassen) and Laust (Jakob Oftebro), amidst a country ravaged with war. Boussnina received a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Mini Series at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, in addition to a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the prestigious Nordic ceremony – the Robert Festival in 2015.
