The Saturday night double episodes of Spanish thriller I Know Who You Are may have come to an end on BBC Four, however fans of the series can return to unravel the clues from the beginning as the complete first season is released on DVD from Monday 14th August.

The weekend delivered the final back-to-back episodes audiences had been waiting for with trepidation – what happened to Ana Saura? With echoes of The Killing and The Disappearance, we didn’t know what to expect or which ambiguous characters to sympathise with: Juan Elías, Eva Durán, Alicia Castro or even Ana herself? After Ana’s true colours were revealed through flashbacks and other perspectives, it wasn’t easy to define who to trust. This sentiment is echoed by The Artsdesk.com, I Know Who You Are has chilliness at its heart”, and, “gripping, but no one to root for”. Nevertheless, on par with the disdainful cast of Gomorrah, I Know Who You Are kept us hooked and wanting more.

In the climax, the fate of Ana and what lead Juan Elías to suffer from his debilitating memory loss was finally answered. Yet, in true Euro Noir fashion, the plot left us with more questions while the credits rolled. In a review from The Killing Times, the style of the show is epitomised as follows: “Twists and turns were dropped like bombs throughout the episodes, and the cliff hangers at the end of each instalment were perfectly timed and executed.” This included the finale which has left viewers on tenterhooks for an upcoming second, six-part season to look forward to.

While the UK air date hasn’t been revealed for season two, British audiences must wait a little longer to find out the fates of the characters, now we know who they are and what they are truly capable of.

The complete 10-episodes of the breath-taking first season, directed by Pau Freixas and produced by Filmax International and Mediaset España, stars Francesc Garrido, Blanca Portillo, Àlex Monner, Noa Fontanals, Aida Folch, Carles Francino, Antonio Dechent, Nancho Novo, Mar Sodupe, Susana Abaitua and Martiño Rivas.
