It has been announced that a second series of the popular Arctic show Fortitude has been confirmed.

The news comes just before the series finale of the first season, which airs on our UK television screens tonight. Television network Pivot has signed off a second series after receiving praised reviews and high ratings.

The tense first series of Fortitude followed a small Arctic town pinned ‘the safest place on earth’ which is soared by a violent crime gone awry. Its loyal and somewhat naïve community become more and more suspicious after murder is committed and a series of secrets become unveiled.

Its chilling conclusion will be aired for UK audiences tonight, which sees its primary characters unleashed to some tense and altering decisions.

Fortitude features an all-star cast made up of Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston, Richard Dormer and Sofie Gråbøl and is written, created and executive produced by Simon Donald.

A release date for the second season of Fortitude is yet to be confirmed.

Fortitude concludes at 9pm on Sky Atlantic tonight
