Enjoy a Danish Christmas in London

Get into the Danish Christmas spirit with hygge and gløgg.

While we can easily guess that gløgg is an alcoholic beverage (a seasonal mulled wine), we may not be sure of the meaning of hygge. VisitDenmark best describes the Danish word hygge (phonetically written as hooga, to help those of the non-Danish speaking variety) to translate as a sense of cosiness. Now that Central London is illuminated by the Christmas lights, switched on by Kylie Minogue on Monday – what better way to experience a Christmas cosiness than at the Danish Christmas Bazaar in Hampstead, London this November?

The Danish YWCA is a youth organisation, supported by The Danish Church Abroad and The Danish Seamens Church. The society helps young Danish people visiting the UK with temporary accommodation, whilst seeking jobs or studying in London. The YWCA are hosting a traditionally festive Christmas Bazaar where guests can buy Danish-themed Christmas decorations, sweets, gifts, as well as sample Scandinavian food and drink. The organisers extend their hygge with a welcoming message on their site: “Please feel free to bring your family and friends to this great Danish Christmas Event.”

The Danish YWCA Christmas Bazaar will take place on Saturday 28th November, from 11am-5pm and Sunday 29th November from 11am-4pm with a small admission charge of £2 per person.

Location: 43 Maresfield Gardens, Hampstead, London. NW3 5TF. Nearest tube station: Hampstead on the Northern Line or Finchley Road via the Jubilee or Metropolitan lines.

Enjoy the Danish experience in London and we wish you a Glædelig Jul og Godt November!
