Best of Nordic Noir 2014 Countdown: 7. Gomorrah leaves a bloody but thrilling trail

Along with Generation War, another Beyond title that turned many heads was Italian gangster series Gomorrah. Based upon Roberto Saviano’s shocking expose of the Naples Camorra, the show saw the rise of a right hand man to mafia boss, in the midst of a family feud and warring gangs.

The series bowled over critics who compared its realistic portrayal of Italian mobsters to acclaimed TV shows and films such as Goodfellas and The Wire. The bloody but fascinating series even picked up 5 Roma Fiction Festival awards to add to its highly successful debut year.  It also helped kickstart the Beyond sub-genre Criminale Italia label which you’ll be seeing much more of next year.
