Best of Nordic Noir 2014 Countdown: 10. Aksel Hennie is a true Pioneer

Headhunters star Aksel Hennie returned to the big screen this year in the tense real life thriller Pioneer. Based upon actual events that occurred in Norway in the 1980s in told the shocking true story of a group of deep sea divers who were exploited and put in a perilous situation by the government, all in order to extract oil from the Norwegian sea bed.

Aksel Hennie gives a stunning and physical performance as the conflicted but determined Petter, who uncovers an awful government conspiracy following the tragic death of his fellow deep-sea diving brother. Hennie was recognised for his stunning lead performance at Norway’s prestigious Amanda Awards in August, where he picked up the Best Actor award.

We spoke to Aksel earlier this year about Pioneer and the unbelievable story behind the film.
