Take a glimpse at the chillingly seasonal trailer for the new Scandi crime drama
Earlier this year, BBC Four announced its acquisition of Modus and we have been waiting to hear more about the show’s imminent arrival ever since. Just like the mystery of the narrative unravelling, we are gradually discovering more about the intriguing new crime series coming our way! Now, BBC Four has released a brand new trailer with a haunting rendition of Silent Night to get us in an alternative merry mood…
Just because it’s Christmas, there’s no rest for the wicked. By now, we should know that Nordic Noir does not take a break for the festive period. A killing spree plunges criminal psychologist Inger Johanne Vik (Melinda Kinnaman) into a waking nightmare when her autistic daughter Stina (Esmeralda Struwe) witnesses a murder. Vik must investigates the slayings with detective Ingvar Nyman (Henrik Norlén) to put a stop to the villain’s endgame before Stina becomes his next target. Based on Anne Holt’s best-selling “Vik/Stubø” novels, Modus is the next big series to add to your Nordic Noir Christmas watch list.
What else can we look forward to from Modus? Why, Wallander’s Krister Heriksson’s return to the Swedish crime scene, that’s what. Recently, we have welcomed him to the English-language role of Dr. Larson in the third season of The Fall, starring opposite Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson. In the slow-burning ‘Emerald Noir’, Larson is called in to assess the mental state of serial killer Paul Spector.
Modus has been celebrating its native success following a nomination at the annual Kristallen Awards in September. The highly rated show competed against The Bridge for Best TV Drama of 2016, which no doubt gives Modus a promising appraisal for UK audiences. Swedish viewers tuned in with top-grossing figures in September 2015. The show reportedly “reached over 1.2 million viewers, taking a share of 37.2%. The incredible launch makes Modus TV4’s biggest drama launch in over 2 years and Sweden’s number 1 drama launch of 2015 to date.” All the more reason to watch it!
Get ready for no more silent nights. Modus is coming soon to BBC Four.
