Arrow Films have confirmed that the three-region co-ordinated iTunes release of praised Danish drama Borgen is expected to become the highest earning revenue for a subtitled drama in the UK, US and Canada.
All three seasons of the political series became available for download on Monday 31st August with British, American and Canadian fans now able to watch exclusively via iTunes. Borgen has entered the top 30 for television downloads in the UK, top 25 in the US and top 20 in Canada marking the first that is has been accessible to customers in those territories.
Borgen is regarded as one of Denmark’s most cherished and praised political series centring on Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg and her rise to power. As well leading the country, Nyborg faces the challenges of her role as a wife and mother and how the media is intimately linked to the Danish political system.
Sidse Babett Knudsen played the role of Birgitte Nyborg for three series alongside fellow Danish actor Pilou Asbæk. Both actors reunited on the television screen earlier this year for the Danish war series 1864 which recounted the tragic events of the Second Schleswig War.
Originally aired between 2010 and 2013, Borgen has generated as one of Scandinavia’s most popular series winning numerous awards including the BAFTA Award for Best International Series.
