After weeks of speculation and anticipation, the delay is almost over as Danish historical series 1864 debuts on BBC Four at 9pm this Saturday 16th May.
1864 recounts the controversial year of the Second Schleswig War that saw Denmark desolately outnumbered against Germany resulting in a devastating loss. During this time, as war is declared, two brothers unite to face the grisliest battle in Danish history.
The ten-part series is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch, 1994) and features an array of Nordic stars. The Killing’s Lars Mikkelsen and Søren Malling reunite alongside Borgen co-stars Sidse Babett Knudsen and Pilou Asbæk.
DR – the production company behind The Legacy and Borgen – produce the series making it their most expensive series yet; consisting of 2,000 extras and 323 sets in 36 different locations, brings the series to you.
The premiere of 1864 arrives a few weeks before the Nordicana: Nordic Noir & Beyond Live 2015 festival, which sees the cast reunite to make an appearance. Marie Tourell Søderberg and Jens Sætter-Lassen will be joining newcomers Jakob Oftebro and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina at the event that takes place in London next month.
